Maxi Story : Mustard Pleats & White Drapes

Hi Everyone! Hope everyone had a great week! I'm so glad the weekend is here, I can't wait to make use of my Citibike to go for a picnic this weekend! I'm huge on indulging and relaxing over the weekends, I mostly spend them exploring new places/restaurants and eating, eating, and more eating. I noticed that I've been going out to eat a lot more frequently during the Spring/Summer. I think I might have to blame all the good food festivals that the city holds, they are filled with so many different vendors! For today's outfit, I paired this pleated maxi skirt with a white loose fitting blouse. I love how the blouse has a draping effect to it and how it ties in really well with the pleats of the skirt. I kept the rest of the outfit really simple to avoid overwhelming the skirt with a black skinny studded belt and minimal gold tone accessories. I would actually wear this outfit out to grab some lunch and tea with my girlfriends and this outfit would also be a great for date night.

I'm not sure if you noticed or if I ever blogged about it, but I've been on an absolute maxi-craze. I just love them. I have to admit, at first, I thought they would be overwhelming on a petite frame, and of course, thought I would never be able to find one that would fit my height. I sure was a little pessimistic because I was wrong. I love the pleats on this maxi skirt and think that they actually elongate my legs. I am wearing four inch heels here, and the skirt just grazes the floor, so it is on the longer side. What I love most about this skirt is how it flows as you're walking, it's beautiful. You can see it on Elle from Fast Food & Fast Fashion here.

Top : H&M sz 2, Bottom : Asos Petite Sz 1 (here),
Shoes : Steve Madden sz 5 (here), Accessories : Belt from Banana Republic (here),
Bracelets from C. Wonder and J. Crew, Necklace from Nadri (here), Rings from Gorjana

As for the color, I'm still experimenting with the mustard yellow and what colors to pair it with, I've been playing it safe with colors like black, navy, and white, but I really want to pair this with some patterns.

How would you wear this maxi skirt? If you have any suggestions on pairings for this skirt, feel free to leave it in the comments below.

Thank you so much for reading! :)

  1. I really, really like this skirt! If it's petite, I'm going to check Asos and see if it's still available because you've convinced me on this one:) How tall are you and can I ask if it runs true to size?

  2. Thanks Shira! I'm between 4'10" and 4'11" and the skirt just grazes the floor when worn with 4" heels. I would say that ASOS petite sizing runs smaller and that a petite sz 1 fits similar to H&M sz 2, if not a little smaller. Hope this helps! :)

  3. First three colors to cross my mind were also black, navy and white. Also, maybe a striped white and gray top would work?

  5. Love this skirt, and the entire outfit! Other colors to consider with mustard is gray, brown or nudes. I love maxi dresses, but I've been hesitant about maxi skirts. Thanks for the inspiration!
