Hi Everyone! Hope you're all having a great week so far. We're experiencing a major heat wave in New York City this week, and I couldn't help but stay indoors majority of the time. I apologize in advance for the quality of the pictures, we took these during sunset since it was too hot during the day to get anything done. I really tried to avoid going outdoors, it was just too hot and humid, I could feel the sun draining out my energy just on my commute to work in the morning. Although I've experienced hot and sticky weather before, I have to say, the heat wave here is on a different level. I've been back to Malaysia quite a few times (my mom is Malaysian), and they are hot there all year round. Imagine 90°F every day of the week, sounds about right, but I've never felt as sticky, sweaty, and just unable to breathe as I do during the heat waves here. The weather forecast predicts a storm coming this weekend, so hopefully, the weather would cool down a little bit afterwards. I think almost every New Yorker can use a breather. So how do I stay cool during these hot days? I have to say, wearing things that are loose so it doesn't stick to my body, and wearing white. I'm not sure if wearing white would actually cool you down, but I just have the mindset that wearing black would attract the sun rays, so maybe, wearing white would do the opposite and reflect them. I know that the possibility of that being true is probably very low, but it's just something that I have in the back of my mind and I find myself subconsciously picking out whites when getting ready in the morning.

Here I'm wearing a lavender draped top with a white skirt and cinched it with a skinny belt. Due to the heat wave lately, I've been wearing the blouses + skirt combination, and topping it off with a belt a lot. If you follow me on Instagram, you would see my occasional Outfit of the Day posts consisting of just that. Shorts are actually considered inappropriate where I work and I really don't feel like wearing long pants during these summer days, so I've been constantly picking out skirts to wear. When wearing skirts and loose fitting tops, it's important to cinch your waist with a belt. Not only does adding a belt define your waistline, it also creates balance to your body so it doesn't look like your clothes are swallowing you. For petites, the last thing we want is to seem like we're being swallowed by clothes and looking smaller than we already are.
How are you staying cool from the heat? Do you have a go-to combination when getting ready?
I wore this outfit with a white Kate Spade bag for work, but switched out the large bag for a floral clutch for dinner. I originally got this clutch because I thought it was cute and fairly inexpensive to hold my iPad in, but I found myself using this more when going out for dinner. I like how there are six different colors in the flowers so it gives me a wider range of colors for my outfit pairings.
I am joining Tara from Mix and Match Fashion in her Summer Style Linkup so be sure to check out how other bloggers are staying cool during the hot summer days.
Thank you so much for reading! :)
Be sure to stay cool and hydrated if you're experiencing a heat wave.
