Blush Lace and Burgundy + H&M Reviews

Hi Everyone! Happy Monday! It's kind of  hard to believe that a quarter of the year has already passed, it's already April! Earlier this week, I posted a few fitting room photos from H&M on Instagram. This blouse was actually one of the two items I ended up purchasing that day. Although I normally wear burgundy in the Fall and Winter seasons, I noticed that the color brightens when paired with lighter colors. Here, I paired it with a light pink lace skirt from H&M's Conscious Collection last year and simple black pumps.

I have to admit, the Ann Taylor Perfect Pumps are pretty comfortable. Although I travel in flats when commuting to and from work, these heels do not wear my feet out when working an 8 hour shift and running errands during my lunch break. At 3¼", I think the heel height for this shoe is perfect for the office, any higher would make it less appropriate.

It was a little windy in the morning so I wore my scarf underneath my trench coat, but by the afternoon, the weather was so beautiful, I decided to just tie the scarf into a bow on the handles of my bag. I absolutely love tying bows with my silk scarves when I'm not using it (seen here). I think it is super cute and a great way to complement your outfit.

Top : H&M size 2, Skirt : H&M size 2 (similar here and here)
Shoes : Ann Taylor size 5 (here), Bag : Longchamp
Accessories : Scarf from Shanghai, Belt from C. Wonder

Top : H&M size 2

I love this burgundy top. It's so comfortable and drapes so well on. The best part about this shirt are the sleeves, they are petite friendly and fits nicely without being too loose and baggy. For $24.95, I couldn't pass it up. If this shirt came in white, I would definitely get it too.

Dress : H&M size 2 (retails for $39.95)

I've been on the lookout for the perfect little white dress for a while now. I came across this dress at H&M and thought it was a winner until I turned it around. It was such a bummer to see that the zipper is exposed in the back. Nonetheless, I did give it a shot and tried it on. It is such a cute dress, but it is definitely on the fitted and shorter end. This dress would only be appropriate for day dresses or casual days, definitely not for work so I passed.

Dress : H&M size 2
Measurements : Armpit to Armpit 15" laid flat, Shoulder to Hem 35", Waist 13" laid flat

On my way out, I spotted this dress hanging. The price tag for this dress is definitely on the hefty side. Retailing for $59.95, normally I would pass since it was from H&M, but I thought this one was definitely more promising than the other white dress. The length of this dress is noticeably longer and the zipper is hidden in the back. I used a 25% coupon with this so it ended up only being $44.96 which isn't too bad since it is of better quality with a thicker material and the details of this dress are amazing.

Although the dress seemed promising on the hanger, when I tried it on back at home, I noticed that this dress was definitely made for taller girls. If you have a bigger chest than I do, then you can probably fill this dress a lot better than I can. I love this dress a lot, but if I wanted to make it work, it would definitely have to go through a lot of alterations. Right now, I'm not sure if this dress is worth all the alterations.

Dress : Old Navy size 0 (here)
Measurements : Armpit to Armpit 15½" laid flat, Shoulder to Hem 35", Waist 13½" laid flat

A few weeks ago, Jess from whatjesswore reviewed this dress in yellow here. I thought it was super cute, and was overjoyed when I saw it came in white. After all sales and coupons, this dress ended up being $15, such a good deal. I noticed the length of the 0P on Jess was a little shorter than I preferred so I picked up the 0R. The regular size is definitely a longer compared to the petite version, but that was exactly what I was looking for. However, the regular also meant that it would be bigger in other areas throughout the dress.

As you can see, there is a little gap between the dress and my upper torso. It isn't as noticeable as the H&M dress, but it still bothers me. Other than that, the dress is a little loose in the upper torso and the waistline sits a little below my natural waistline. The back of the dress doesn't do much to flatter me, rather it seems as if it flattens it out. I haven't come to a verdict yet, but I am leaning towards returning this dress despite the cute eyelet details and unbeatable price.

What are your thoughts? Should I keep the H&M dress and alter it or should I pass and continue my search?

As always, thank you so much for reading! :)

  1. I love this outfit! At first I thought the burgundy top was too boxy on you but it looks great tucked in! I thought you were wearing Louboutins but the AT pumps look very similar.

I say return the H&M dress. The lace is pretty but after alterations I'm sure you can find a better one without any additional work.

I really love the striped AA belt with the ON dress. Maybe I should get it after all? Too bad the dress it's not a good fit. The back of the yellow version of dress was also unflattering on me. I'm surprised the bigger/regular size does the same to you because I believe you're smaller than me.

    1. Thanks Jess! The burgundy top is definitely on the boxier side now that I look at it. I'll most likely return the H&M dress. I realized, it really wasn't worth the alterations and it's only the beginning of Spring, so I'm sure other retailers are going to come out with similar styles. You should definitely get the striped AA belt! The only thing with the belt is that you can only wear it high waist, but I don't mind that much since I usually only pair it with skirts/dresses.

  4. I love your outfit!x The shirt looks great on you and the colour was definitely a good choice:)I really like the first dress choice from H&M but I agree that it is more like a day dress. I like the second one but I don't think that it's worth the price as you have to make extra alterations to it!x I am sure that you can find something with a better price tag and without any alterations needed!

    1. Thanks Stephanie for your feedback! I have to agree, the H&M dress isn't worth all the alterations and I'm sure another retailer would have a similar style sooner or later.

  10. I love your outfit with the burgundy top, SO pretty! And I also went and tried on the Old Navy dress after reading Jess' review. I felt the same way as you, that it didn't feel quite right. I didn't buy it since I feel as the weather warms, there might be more choices coming!

    1. Thanks Yi-chia! The Old Navy dress has so much potential on the hanger, it's a bummer that it doesn't work for so many people but I have been seeing so any little white dresses in stores, just in time for the warmer weather :)
