Polka Dot Lace & Snake Skin Details

Hi Everyone! Today I have an outfit featuring the beloved pattern, polka dots. Lately, I've been seeing polka dots everywhere, from bloggers to stores. As much as I love stripes, I love polka dots just as much. From the big polka dot pattern to the smaller ones, I think they are so feminine and fun. It's the perfect print to wear during the warmer seasons, especially when played well with colors. Here I am wearing the Banana Republic Mara Dot Lace Top in blue and paired it off with red skinny ankle pants. I purchased these ankle pants from H&M last year for $12.95 and have worn it countless times throughout the year. The fit and length was perfect so I couldn't pass on it. However, after wearing it for the first time, I realized that these pants are wrinkle prone and can really be a pain when you want to wear them. For the price, I should have expected this and shouldn't be complaining. This style is still available in H&M in various prints and colors, but in a longer length for the same price. Lastly, to finish the outfit, I decided to go for a white blazer to bring out the polka dot lace details in the top creating a brighter look.

I first saw this shirt in white on Jess from whatjesswore here and have been searching high and low for it. It was sold out in petites on the Banana Republic website of course, but I did get to find it in an XS Regular in stores. I tried it on, in hopes that it would only be a little loose. Unfortunately, a little loose actually turned out to be way too big on me so I passed. Last week, while shopping in the city, I happened to find this in the sale section of Banana Republic for $12.97 final sale. Since it was the last one, I quickly grabbed it and held on to it as I continued to look around the store some more. This top is still a little on the loose side even in an XSP, but I did tie knots to the straps of the under layer to make it work since I haven't had the time to do alterations yet.

  1. I love the transparent polka dots! And you picked a really interesting background, there's even a red railing to match your pants!

    1. I didn't even notice the unintentional matching red railing. Thanks Brittney! :)

  2. Love your top - the whole outfit combo really. Very classy. I love stripes for spring and am finding myself more and more drawn to geometric patterns.

    1. Thanks dear! I have to agree with you on the stripes, it's one of my favorite patterns, not just spring, but all year round pretty much :)

  3. I love this outfit Christine! The colors are bold and colorful and actually patriotic without seeming so at the same time. I don't know why I never realized you were from NYC. I can be really oblivious sometimes. lol To be honest I haven't worn it since I reviewed it so shame on me. I too haven't found the time to fix the straps. :)

    What Jess Wore

    1. Thanks Jess! I didn't notice how patriotic my colors were until I was writing this :)

  4. I love this outfit so much. You can't do much wrong with polka dots! Wish those exact pants were still sold in stores - they would probably be perfect for me.

    1. Thanks Chrissie! I agree, I wish they still sold these pants in stores. I really wanted to get more colors. If you know how to sew, you can easily alter the longer ones available in stores now. :)

  5. adorable outfit! loving the top - I can never get enough of polka dots :)
