Lunar Red

Hi Everyone! Today is the Lunar New Year. Different cultures adopt different traditions when it comes to celebrating the New Year. I am part Malaysian and part Vietnamese, so for both sides of my family, we like to wear red to welcome the New Year. Red is a very bold color that stands for happiness, love, and luck. In the spirit for the Lunar New Year, I picked out this red blazer from J. Crew and kept the rest of the outfit simple with an ivory lace top and white jeans. The lace top gives the outfit a softer and more delicate touch when wore with the red blazer. If you're not celebrating the Lunar New Year, this can also be a great Valentine's Day outfit. =)

I adore this vintage Etienne Aigner bag. I thought it added a great feminine touch to any outfit. To modernize the look a little, I tied a bow to the handle with a silk scarf that I bought in Shanghai last year. The silk scarf also adds some color to the rest of the outfit.

How do you celebrate the New Year in your culture?

Blazer : J. Crew size 00P, Top : Forever 21 size S, Bottom : Old Navy size 0S
Bag : Vintage Etienne Aigner, Scarf : from Shanghai, Shoes : Aldo size 5
Accessories : Bracelet from Banana Republic, Ring from Kate Spade, Watch from Michael Kors, Necklace from DailyLook

Here are some traditional Malaysian sweets we have at home during the Lunar New Year. Although they are all delicious, my favorite would be the Kaya Puff and Kuih Kapit. Both are sweet and flaky up to the point where it's like goodness melted in your mouth.
